CHILDREN

Left St George Secondary School at 14.  Sent to work at Strachan & Henshaw – an engineering firm not far from the school.  He was not happy there – he wanted t work in his fathers business.  He in fact made the move when he was 17, eventually assuming full responsibility in his late 30s.

He was trained as a fitter and turner but eventually turned his hand to all the various activities e.g. general metal fabrication, chimney stacks in steel plate, welding, re-metalling “big-end” and main bearings for large diesel oil engines and boiler re-tubing and repair.
